As we pursue our goals, it’s vital to heed Rabindranath Tagore’s insight: “You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.” This reminds us that action is crucial. While planning is important, only by taking decisive steps forward can we truly turn our dreams into reality. 

On the same note, attending and presenting my work at the GEA conference was a positive and enlightening experience in my academic journey. Being the only person selected from India made it even more special and rewarding. Visiting Australia for the first time and engaging with diverse intellectuals was truly stimulating. Everything was thoughtfully arranged, from the seamless registration and excellent hosts to the delicious food and well-organized sessions. The Whova app made accessing information easy. The organizers were energetic, humble and approachable, and I want to give a special thanks to Prof. Cate Thomas and her team’s dedication throughout the conference. They arranged good transportation facilities, which made for a smooth experience. 

My presentation examines the intricate interplay between caste and class identities and their intersections, which create complex and diverse challenges as well as coping strategies for women research scholars in India. By utilizing an intersectional framework, this study seeks to understand how these identities intersect to shape unique experiences. The work was based on my PhD research. Receiving positive feedback on my presentation boosted my motivation. Listening to other presentations and studies on gender and education, as well as personal stories from different social contexts, broadened my understanding of gender issues globally. I formed valuable connections and hope to maintain these relationships.  

Overall, the conference highlighted the importance of such events. The financial support I received through a bursary made it possible for me to attend. Financial assistance like this is crucial; it acts as a bridge for those in need, like myself as an early career researcher. This support not only benefits individuals but also empowers women to become role models in their communities, motivating them and others to take initiative and sustain their journeys.  

In summary, the conference was impactful, both academically and beyond, helping to understand complex issues and provided information to take meaningful steps forward.
